Garden Clubs across the United States purchase and dedicate Blue Star Memorial Markers to publicly honor and show gratitude for all U.S. Armed Forces members, past, present and future.  The Marker is a tangible symbol of remembrance and support for service members and their families and serves as visible reminders of sacrifice, encouraging community appreciation and beautification, with the blue star itself representing hope and pride for those serving.

The Blue Star Program began with the planting of 8,000 Dogwood trees by the New Jersey Council of Garden Clubs in 1944 as a suitable means of honoring veterans of World War II. The program was the first project undertaken by Garden Clubs on a national scale.  In 1951 the program expanded to honor ALL men and women who serve in the United States Armed Services.  The Blue Star was adopted because it had become an icon in World War II seen on flags and banners in homes for sons and daughters away at war as well as in churches and businesses. The program has since expanded to place markers in parks, civic and historical grounds.

Stockton Garden Club has placed 3 other Memorial markers in Stockton.

  • Haggin Museum Entrance Garden, 1201 N Pershing Avenue, Stockton

  • Service First, Bianchi and Claremont

  • Tuxedo Avenue Fountain on Pacific Avenue, Stockton
